Nearly 200 people had to be rescued by Los Angeles County lifeguards amid ocean conditions that included strong rip currents and rough surf on Tuesday.
In total, 187 ocean rescues were made throughout the day, according to a tweet from the L.A. County Lifeguards account.
Aerial video captured multiple swimmers and surfers being rescued in the waters off Venice Beach.
County lifeguards later stated that 88 rescues were made at Venice Beach during the day.
According to a the National Weather Service, there was a “high risk” of rip currents for all beaches located in Los Angeles and Ventura counties through Tuesday night.
Strong rip currents and elevated surf were also forecast for Orange and San Diego counties through Thursday, the weather service reported.
