Kaydence Hampton was pronounced dead at Children’s Hospital of Orange County, in Mission Viejo, according to the county coroner’s office.

The three-car collision occurred shortly before 9 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Muirlands Boulevard and Alton Parkway.

Katherine Hampton, 54, of Lake Forest, was driving a white Chevrolet Cruze when the vehicle was involved in a crash with a black Ford Mustang and black Honda Civic. She died at the scene and was later identified by the coroner’s office.

The Cruze’s three other occupants — Hampton’s adult daughter, granddaughter Kaydence and 7-year-old grandson — were transported to hospitals in serious condition, the Irvine Police Department said.

The adult female driver of the Civic was taken to a hospital and later released.

The driver of the Mustang, 20-year-old Alec Scott Abraham, fled the scene on foot, police said.

On Thursday morning, a man who identified himself by a name similar to Abraham’s contacted KTLA. He described the collision as an accident and said he intended to surrender to authorities after speaking with an attorney.

Abraham, of Costa Mesa, did not turn himself in, according to police. He was arrested at a park in Costa Mesa about 1 p.m. Thursday. Suffering from minor injuries, he was transported to a hospital for treatment before being booked.

He was being held on $1,000,000 bail and expected to appear in court Monday, according to sheriff’s online inmate records.

Before the suspect was taken into custody, a multi-agency search was conducted near the crash site by Irvine and Tustin police, two bloodhounds, an Orange County Sheriff’s Department’s helicopter, the California Highway Patrol.

Anyone with information about the collision is asked to call Irvine police Detective Jonathan Cherney at 949-724-7024.
