As Disneyland prepared to begin construction on a new “Star Wars” land, several attractions in Frontierland and Critter Country were slated to close — some permanently — at the Orange County theme park starting on Monday.
Parkgoers will be able to enjoy one last weekend at Big Thunder Ranch before it closes forever to make room for the 14-acre expansion project. The area includes Big Thunder Ranch Barbecue, Big Thunder Ranch Petting Farm and Big Thunder Ranch Jamboree.
The goats, sheep and donkeys from the petting zoo will be relocated to their forever home on a farm in Murrieta, Disney announced in a blog post on Friday. The farm is already home to four former Disneyland goats.
Other attractions will be temporarily closed as the theme park undergoes construction, including ones that sit on the Rivers of America.
The Mark Twain Riverboat, Sailing Ship Columbia, Pirate’s Lair on Tom Sawyer Island, Davy Crocket Explorer Canoes and Fantastmic! will all be shut down for an indefinite amount of time when the theme park closes on Jan. 10.
Additionally, Disneyland Railroad and all of its stations will also be closed beginning on Jan. 11 for refurbishments.
The temporary and permanent closures sit on nearly a quarter of the park’s 85 acres, and represent about 14 percent of Disneyland’s attractions, the Los Angeles Times reported in December.
It is still unclear when exactly construction would begin, as Disney has previously indicated that groundbreaking on the “Star Wars”-theme land would take place this year.
A completion date has also not been provided.
The project, announced last August at the D23 Expo, is Disney’s largest single themed land expansion, according to CEO Bob Iger.
