A man died after he was shot while walking out of a business in the Florence-Firestone neighborhood of Los Angeles on Tuesday evening, officials said.
The gunfire was reported just after 7:30 p.m. in the 8100 block of South Central Avenue, Deputy Trina Schrader of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Information Bureau said in a written statement.
Deputies responded to a report of a shooting when they encountered the victim, a man estimated to be in his mid- to late-20s, lying wounded in a sidewalk, Lt. Charles Calderon of the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau said. The victim had been shot multiple times in the torso.
“Paramedics arrived shortly thereafter and the victim was pronounce dead at the scene,” Calderon said.
The investigation remains in its early stages, and no description of the killer or killers was available, he said.
“It appears the victim was exiting the business when he was shot,” the lieutenant said. It was not clear what type of business the victim had been visiting.
Calderon said detectives were canvassing the area for witnesses and surveillance camera footage that may shed light on what happened.
The business, itself, was believed to have surveillance cameras, and investigators were looking into whether any clues were recorded on them, Calderon said.
No details regarding the circumstances of the shooting were available.
