Two suspects have been detained after a man with multiple gunshot wounds died in a Santa Ana College parking lot early Monday morning. Police received a call about 1 a.m. reporting shots fired in the 1500 block of North Bristol Street, Santa Ana Police Department Sgt. Jorge Lopez said. Arriving officers found a man suffering from several gunshot wounds down at the location, Lopez said. Paramedics from Orange County Fire Authority responded to treat the man, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, a news release from the Police Department stated. The victim had apparently been driving on Bristol Street when a passenger in another vehicle opened fire on him, Lopez said. After he was struck by the gunfire and lost control of his vehicle, the driver crashed on the Santa Ana College campus. The gunman’s vehicle fled the scene in an unknown direction following the shooting. The victim was involved in some type of altercation with the people in the other vehicle, but it was unclear at what point that occurred, Santa Ana Police Department Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said. Investigators are looking for surveillance video from nearby McDonald’s restaurant and from the Santa Ana College campus that may show the shooting. Two suspects in the city of Long Beach and three persons of interest in the city of Carson have been detained in connection with the case, according to the news release. Santa Ana College canceled classes Monday morning as a result of the shooting.
