Authorities have arrested a man who threatened to kill his neighbor, then allegedly shot and killed that neighbor’s dog over excessive barking in Calaveras County.
The shooting happened Wednesday morning in the 9000 block of Scenic Valley Road in the community of Jenny Lind, KTLA sister station KRON in San Francisco reported.
The victim called 911 to report he was arguing with someone who was speeding by his home and causing excessive dust in the area, according to the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office.
During that argument, the suspect, 60-year-old Roger Wayne Anderson, got out of his trailer and fired shots from a handgun, killing the victim’s dog over “barking excessively,” authorities said.
Anderson then pointed his gun at the victim and threatened to kill him, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
He fled the area in an older blue Ford Expedition before authorities arrived on scene.
Anderson surrendered to police the following day. According to the Sheriff’s Office, he potentially faces felony charges of animal cruelty, discharge of a firearm in a grossly negligent manner, criminal threats and being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm.
His bail has been set at almost $1.2 million.
