Detectives were investigating a shooting death of a man and a woman in Baldwin Park Thursday, officials said.

Detectives were dispatched to a residential area on the 3300 block of Athol Street around 2:05 p.m. in response to a 911 call about a possible domestic violence incident, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said. They arrived to find a man and a woman with gunshot wounds.

Both victims were deceased, the department said.

A third person who suffered from severe injuries was taken to a local hospital and is being treated for non-life threatening injuries, according to deputies.

A firearm was recovered at the scene.

The motive for the shooting is unknown.

The department originally identified a suspect as an adult female. A spokesperson for the department later said they did not yet know if the female is still considered a suspect, and as of 9 p.m., they were not able to provide information on whether a suspect is currently being sought.

No further information was available, and the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the department at 323-890-5500. To provide information anonymously, call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or visit lacrimestoppers.org.

Correction: An earlier version of this story, including its headline, stated incorrectly that authorities said a suspect was being sought in the shooting. In fact, authorities in a statement only identified a suspect as a female adult but did not indicate she was being sought, and a sheriff’s spokesman later said it was no longer certain if that woman was a suspect.
