The pursuit began on North Figueroa Street and York Boulevard (map), Sgt. Albert Gonzalez of the Los Angeles Police Department said.

The car headed through surface streets in the Highland Park area and made its way toward Chinatown, then entered the northbound 110 Freeway.

The driver then exited the freeway at Via Mirasol and returned to surface streets in Highland Park.

The pursuit came to an end when police used the PIT maneuver to stop the car near Huntington Drive and West Main Street (map) in El Sereno.

The driver came out of the vehicle with his hands raised and surrendered to authorities a short time later.

He was arrested on suspicion of grand theft auto and evading police, Lt. Richard Parks of LAPD’s Northeast Station said.
