A 16-year-old boy was arrested after he allegedly took to social media to make a threat of violence at the U.S. Open of Surfing, Huntington Beach police announced on Friday night.
Police received a tip from another law enforcement regarding the threat on Friday at about noon, a news release from the Huntington Beach Police Department stated. The alleged threat was made on social media the day before, police said.
After investigating, police said they determined the threat to be credible and identified the person who allegedly made it as a Huntington Beach teen.
The 16-year-old was arrested at his home at about 7 p.m. on Friday. Officers also found a handgun and shotgun at the residence, the release stated.
The teen was interviewed and would be booked the Orange County Juvenile Hall on a terrorist threat charge, according to police.
