A pregnant woman delivered a baby Tuesday night after being shot multiple times in South El Monte and transported to a hospital, authorities said.

The unidentified woman, in the seventh month of her pregnancy, was in a driveway of a home in the 1900 block of Merced Avenue  (map) when she was struck by gunfire, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said in a press release.

The shooter or shooters fled in a dark-colored sedan and remained at large, the release said.

The baby was in fair condition early Wednesday morning, according to the Sheriff’s Department. The mother’s condition was unknown.
