A 62-year-old man in a wheelchair who was killed by a hit-and-run driver in San Bernardino was identified by the coroner’s office Saturday.

William Earl Swisher III died on Thursday, Aug. 14 and was possibly a resident of Victorville, the coroner’s office stated.

Investigators believed Swisher was traveling in his wheelchair near Cajon Boulevard near North Western Avenue (map) when a vehicle struck him, according to a San Bernardino Police Department news release at the time.

A light-colored work utility truck with a roof rack fled the scene, the coroner’s office stated.

Anyone with information about the incident was asked to contact Officer Antonio Silva at 909-384-5791.

The cause of death was pending an autopsy, according to the coroner’s office.
