A driver was injured Tuesday afternoon when a vehicle collided with a Metrolink train in Burbank, officials said.

The incident occurred about 3:17 p.m. when train No. 220 of the Antelope Valley Line was traveling southbound near the intersection of Buena Vista Street and San Fernando Boulevard, just south of the 5 Freeway (map), said Officer Joshua Kendrick of the Burbank Police Department.

The driver of the vehicle was transported to a hospital in unknown condition.

There were preliminary reports of minor neck injuries among the train’s 130 passengers, and some were being treated for diabetic issues, officials said.

The train did not derail, but there was considerable damage to its front cab, said Metrolink spokesman Jeff Lustgarten.

Service on the 215, 217, 224 and 226 trains was cancelled as a result of the crash. Metrolink was arranging for shuttle buses to transport passengers between Burbank and Sun Valley, Lustgarten said.

Police detectives and Metrolink personnel were at the scene. An investigation is underway.
