Actress Amanda Bynes was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs after she allegedly ran a red light and stopped her Mercedes SUV in the middle of a Sherman Oaks intersection, the California Highway Patrol announced Monday.
CHP officers saw the SUV fail to stop at the limit line at a red light on Riverside Drive at Van Nuys Boulevard about 3:45 a.m. Sunday, according to a news release from the department.
The vehicle instead came to halt in the middle of the “T” intersection, according to CHP. Officers pulled the SUV over and 28-year-old Amanda Bynes identified herself as the driver.
She appeared to be “under the influence” and failed to perform a series of field sobriety tests, according to CHP.
Bynes was taken to the West Valley CHP office in Woodland Hills for evaluation by a “drug recognition expert.” After her evaluation, she was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.
It was not known what drug Bynes was allegedly under the influence of, CHP Officer Leland Tang said.
Bynes was taken to the Los Angeles Police Department’s Van Nuys Jail, where she was booked.
“Ms. Bynes was cooperative during the entire process,” the CHP news release stated.
No booking photos was released.
She was released about 12:45 p.m. Sunday on $15,000 bail, county inmate records show. Bynes was due to appear at Van Nuys Superior Court on Oct. 23.
A Thousand Oaks native, Bynes starred in several television shows in the 1990s and 2000s. She was most recently in the 2010 film “Easy A,” according to her biography page on IMDb.
In July 2013, Bynes was placed under involuntary psychiatric hold after a disturbance in Thousand Oaks in which she allegedly set a fire in front of a home.
