Police are investigating after a body with multiple stab wounds was found on a dirt pathway in Marina del Rey on Tuesday morning.
The victim, a man in his 40s, was discovered just after 6 a.m. in the 600 block of Washington Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Police believe the man had been stabbed multiple times before he was discovered on the dirt path between two houses. However, his exact cause of death awaits confirmation from the coroner’s office.
Nereida Andrade, a local resident, said police knocked on her door at 7 a.m. while investigating the discovery.
“It’s incredibly unsettling,” said Andrade.
Andrade said she was walking her dog last night around 10 p.m. but didn’t hear a thing.
“I don’t want to feel scared especially because I was walking [my dog] last night, but the reality is, he might be have been lurking around the time I was walking around,” Andrade said of the suspect.
Authorities blocked off a large portion of Washington Boulevard as they searched for possible surveillance video of the incident.
“We’re just calling anybody who may have any information or who may have seen anything or heard anything to come forward with any information that may help our investigation,” said LAPD.
Resident Ann Kilconmons said the area where the body was found is a popular communal spot where people park, walk and take out their trash. The dirt pathway connects the busy Washington Boulevard with the quieter residential area around the back.
“I’m hoping that once all this clears, all the chaos is gone, the alley will become sort of normal and vacant,” said Kilconmons. “I’m hoping it’s not a hot spot now, you know?”
So far, police do not have a description of the possible suspects. The case remains under investigation.
