A red flag warning was issued Monday morning for parts of Southern California amid gusty winds and dangerous fire conditions, according to the National Weather Service.
The warning, prompted by weak-to-moderate Santa Ana winds, is scheduled to remain in effect through Wednesday afternoon in the mountainous areas of Los Angeles and Ventura counties, and the Santa Clarita Valley, the Weather Service said.
Northeast winds are expected to reach up to 40 mph in the valleys and coastal areas during the late Monday morning hours and afternoon, and are expected to last through the evening.
The gusts, forecast to increase up to 45 mph on Tuesday and Wednesday, will be accompanied by low relative humidity, officials said.
That combination of factors, along with extremely dry fuels, will result in the possibility of “continued critical fire weather conditions,” according to the NWS.
