An arrest has been made in the shooting death of a transgender woman who was killed in Hollywood in October, police said Monday.
Aniya Knee Parker, 47, was shot point-blank in the head in the 600 block of North Kenmore Avenue early Oct. 2. She stumbled across the street, collapsed and later died at a hospital.
Detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Rampart Division have made an arrest but are still looking for two other people, LAPD said in a two-sentence news release. No information was provided about the individual arrested.
Parker was walking down the street when she was confronted by a group of three men, which resulted in a struggle over what appeared to be a purse, police have said. The struggle was caught on video.
Police, who have described the killing as an attempted robbery gone wrong, were looking for three Latino men between 20 and 35.
Alongside investigators, Parker’s sister in October made an emotional plea for those who have information to come forward.
Parker’s death was one of several this year that victimized transgender women, prompting activists and advocates to call attention to the killings.
A $50,000 reward was offered for help leaving to the arrest and conviction of Parker’s killers.
