A man was killed Monday after he allegedly tried to strangle a 20-year-old woman inside a Lakewood home following a confrontation with her stepfather, authorities said.
The victim was visiting with friends at a residence in the 4500 block of Adenmoor Avenue (map) shortly before 12:45 a.m. when he was confronted by the homeowner, according to a news release from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Their dispute stemmed over alleged inappropriate behavior between the victim and the homeowner’s stepdaughter that had occurred a couple of days prior, the release stated.
Angered over the confrontation, the man forced his way into the stepdaughter’s bedroom and allegedly tried to strangle her with his hands, according to the release.
After family members unsuccessfully tried to restrain the homeowner, he grabbed a wooden stool and struck the man with it twice, police said.
The victim staggered out of the home and collapsed outside. He was taken to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
His identity has not yet been released.
Deputies detained but did not arrest the homeowner pending an investigation, the department said.
