Three people were hospitalized, including one in critical condition, when gunfire erupted in the Jefferson Park neighborhood of South Los Angeles Friday morning, police said.
Investigators responded to a shooting reported at about 9:30 a.m. near the intersection of Crenshaw Boulevard and West Adams Boulevard (map), according to Officer Drake Madison of the Los Angeles Police Department.
A 60-year-old man was waiting at a bus stop when he was approached by a young black man riding a bicycle and shot three times, according to police at the scene.
The man was taken to an area hospital in critical condition, police said.
About six minutes later, a man and a woman were shot in a nearby alleyway behind at Taco Bell at Crenshaw Boulevard and West 28th Street (map), police said.
The 33-year-old homeless man was shot about five times in the upper torso, and his female companion was shot three to four times, police said.
Both were hospitalized in stable condition, authorities said.
“We do not know if these are related or if they are just a coincidence,” Detective Joe Chavez of the LAPD said.
The shooter in the second incident was described as a black man in a black SUV, Chavez said.
