Officials are warning those in the Coachella Valley and Banning Pass that they’re likely to experience windblown dust until Friday.
The South Coast Air Quality Management District on Thursday advised that the dust is likely to remain in those areas through noon on Friday, creating air quality that is unhealthy for sensitive groups.
Gusts up to 30 mph are expected, and air quality is expected to be the worst in the northern Coachella Valley and at night, in general.
The South Coast AQMD recommends the following for people under a windblown dust advisory:
- Limit your exposure by remaining indoors with windows and doors closed or by seeking alternate shelter.
- Avoid vigorous physical activity.
- Keep yourself cool by running your air conditioning and/or an air purifier. If possible, do not use swamp coolers or whole house fans that bring in outside air.
- Help minimize dust pollution by stabilizing loose soils and slowing down if driving on dirt roads.
