Two women were attacked by e-bikers who allegedly threw rocks at one victim and stepped on another in Ventura over the weekend.
The incidents were reported around 10:25 p.m. Saturday when police received multiple calls about a group of disruptive minors riding e-bikes in the area of Main and Peking streets.
“The juveniles were reported to have attacked a 66-year-old homeless woman by stepping on her and kicking her while she was lying in a sleeping bag,” the Ventura Police Department stated in a news release Monday.
A second woman at the same location told police the e-bikers threw rocks at her, hitting her with one.
Police received another call about 10 minutes later regarding a group of minors, believed to be the same group, causing a disturbance while riding e-bikes near the Crown Plaza Hotel.
“The group was reportedly spitting at people as they passed on their bikes,” police said.
While officers were still speaking with the victims near Main and Peking streets police say the juveniles returned on their e-bikes.
Officers successfully stopped one of the riders, an unidentified 13-year-old boy from Ventura who had a juvenile female companion riding on the back of the bike, police said.
The teen was arrested on suspicion of battery after being identified by the victim as one of the juveniles who threw a rock at her. The boy was later released to his mother.
The remaining minors, including whoever attacked the homeless woman, have not been located.
