Authorities asked for the public’s help over the weekend in locating an Orange County man whose car was found abandoned in Utah the day after Thanksgiving.
Michael Cavallari — the brother of reality television star Kristin Cavallari — became the subject of a missing persons investigation after the 2014 Honda Civic was discovered approximately 100 feet off of the Floy Wash Road on Nov. 27, according to a news release posted by the Grand County Sheriff’s Office on Saturday.
The vehicle was located some 5 miles south of exit 174 on Interstate 70. It was registered to a resident of San Clemente, the release stated.
However, authorities were unable to locate the driver.
Investigators reviewed credit card transaction receipts that led them to a convenience store in Monticello, Utah. A review of surveillance footage subsequently led them to positively identify Cavallari as being the driver of that vehicle, sheriff’s officials said in the release.
They were working on trying to locate the missing man.
His sister responded in an Instagram post on Monday, after the story began attracting nationwide attention.
“I appreciate all the concern, thoughts, and prayers that have been extended to me and my family,” Kristin Cavallari, who was a cast member of the reality TV shows “Laguna Beach” and “The Hills,” wrote. “We remain hopeful and I will share any news that we receive.”
Anyone with information on Michael Cavallari’s whereabouts was asked to contact the Grand County Sheriff’s Office by calling 435-259-8115, or by going to their website www.grandcountysheriff.org
