If this heat wave is tearing you apart, help is available.

Local officials have set up cooling centers, air-conditioned spaces where the public can get out of the dangerous temperatures.

Heat is especially dangerous for newborns, children, the elderly and those who are pregnant or have chronic health conditions, according to the National Weather Service.

Everyone, but especially people in those categories, are encouraged to stay in shaded and air-conditioned areas, wear loose-fitting and light-colored clothing, and drink plenty of water.

If you can’t find shade or air conditioning, Los Angeles County and other local governments offer cooling centers where people can avoid the heat of the day and stay safe.
