Neil Patrick Harris honored actor James Sikking in a heartwarming post to social media on Monday morning.
From 1989 to 1993, Sikking famously played the father to Harris’ character Doogie Howser, the medical prodigy, in the ABC medical sitcom ‘Doogie Howser, MD.’
“Jim Sikking played my dad in ‘Doogie Howser, MD,’ and was one of the kindest, wisest, funniest, and most generous people I’ve ever known,” Harris penned in a post on Instagram. “A true professional. He treated everyone with respect, taught me countless lessons, yet always had a spark of mischief in his eyes. It was an absolute honor to be his son.”
Sikking, also known for his role as Lieutenant Howard Hunter on “Hill Street Blues,” passed away at 90 years old at his Los Angeles home from complications from dementia, his publicist Cynthia Snyder said in a statement Sunday evening.
Harris finished his note by offering his condolences to Sikking’s “actual family for their loss.”
Sikking is survived by his second wife Florine, his two children and four grandchildren.
