A woman was struck and killed by a car while crossing the street with her boyfriend in the Baldwin Hills area of South Los Angeles.
The couple was walking across La Cienega Boulevard near Obama Boulevard at about 1:30 a.m. when the woman, Yvonne Parks, 40, was struck by a dark-colored Toyota Camry, the Los Angeles Police Department said.
That Toyota then fled without stopping.
“There is evidence left behind, so like I said, we’re doing some follow-up and further investigation right now,” said Sgt. Kevin Ahlemeir.
Video from stringer service OnScene.TV showed what appeared to be the distraught boyfriend mourning next to the woman’s body.
Police are looking for debris from the Camry that may have been left behind, as well as searching for surveillance video or witnesses.
As of 10:45 a.m., no one has been arrested in this incident, the LAPD tells KTLA.
“This morning’s hit-and-run accident is a tragedy,” said L.A. City Councilmember Heather Hutt. “Our office will work with LAPD and the local community to ensure a thorough investigation is conducted. My office continues to advocate for and work with the Department of Transportation to increase pedestrian safety and fund self-enforcing infrastructure to reduce traffic fatalities.”
