Police were called in Tuesday night when hundreds of people and cars began to gather on the iconic Sixth Street Bridge in downtown Los Angeles on the eve of its closure.
Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department moved in a line down the 84-year-old bridge forcing bystanders and vehicles to clear the roadway, aerial video showed.
Only one person was arrested for failing to obey orders, LAPD Officer Mike Lopez said.
The 3,500-foot bridge will be closed to traffic beginning early Wednesday morning so engineers can prepare a portion of the Sixth Street Viaduct for demolition, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Major demolition work was set to begin next week.
During that process, the 101 Freeway will be closed for 40 hours beginning on Feb. 5, the Times reported.
