The double fatal shooting occurred in the 19500 block of South Tillman Avenue shortly before midnight on Saturday, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.

Jordan Love, 27, and Michelle Kelly-Love, 54, were identified as the victims on Sunday by the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.

The two victims and another woman were sitting in the vehicle when a dark-colored sedan driving northbound on Tillman approached and fired numerous shots at the car, the release stated.

The mother and son were struck multiple times and died at the scene.

Jordan Love’s father, Jose Love, was distraught after learning of his son’s and ex-wife’s deaths.

“Nobody can go out and pretend that he was some kind of street thug,” Jose Love said. “That’s why it’s so perplexing to see him have such a senseless demise, along with his mom.”

The second woman in the vehicle — identified by sheriff’s Sgt. Guillermo Morales as Jordan Love’s grandmother — was not injured.

Another neighbor, who asked not to be identified, told KTLA the mother was dropping her son off at his house when the shooting occurred. The incident, he added, left him stunned.

“Because for this neighborhood, this street … it’s a real quiet neighborhood. It’s really surprising for me for something like this to happen,” the man said.

He also stated he didn’t think anyone had any hateful feelings toward the woman or her son.

“It’s just a random shooting, more like,” he said.

A description of the shooter or shooters was not immediately available; it was also unclear how many occupants were inside the suspect vehicle at the time, according to Morales. The sedan was last seen headed northbound on Tillman.

Morales said investigators were going door to door to see if any homes on the street had surveillance cameras that may have captured the deadly incident or the sedan involved.

Detectives were also working to determine a possible motive for the crime.

As the investigation continued, anyone with information about the shooting was encouraged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500.
