Swann is the third consecutive former USC football player to hold the post.

In a letter to the university, President C.L. Max Nikias said “Swann will bring the heart and soul of a Trojan” to the position.

Nikias had said he would conduct a nationwide search after Haden announced he would step down. Nikias also said he would consider candidates not previously affiliated with USC, which would mark a shift for the university that has favored alumni to run the athletic department.
