The driver of a red corvette in Costa Mesa had to be extricated from his vehicle Thursday afternoon after a truck somehow landed on top of the car crushing it.

The crash happened around 5:15 p.m. on the southbound 55 Freeway near the 22nd Street on-ramp, according to the California Highway Patrol incident log.

When rescuers arrived, they found one person trapped inside the Corvette, according to a tweet from the Costa Mesa Fire Department.

The patient was transported to a local trauma center in unknown condition, according to fire officials.

There was no information on the cause of the crash.
