Food delivery might just be one of the original on-demand services. You would think there aren’t any more ways left to revolutionize the process, but a restaurant called The Melt did just that. The Melt, which specializes in gooey grilled cheese sandwiches and crispy French fries, was frustrated that there wasn’t a way to efficiently deliver their food without it getting soggy before reaching its destination. They turned to tech to solve the problem, and developed a “smart box” that keeps food as fresh as if it just came off the grill or out of the oven.

In this week’s episode, I head over to The Melt to see the high-tech box for myself. I caught up with Michael Pavel, one of the innovators behind the box, and how they’re using this new technology to help food taste better, longer. The box uses an algorithm to adjust the heat, humidity, and airflow to help keep everything warm and fresh. The Melt’s smart box could play a key role in expanding the restaurants future, and even the food deliver industry as a whole.

Of course, I wasn’t going to leave without a taste-test, so we put the box to work so I could sample some of The Melt’s favorite offerings. Did it all live up to the hype? You’ll have to listen to find out! You’re sure to work up an appetite on this episode of Tech Smart: America on Demand.
