A 15-year-old student who was reported missing Tuesday by his parents and was believed to be armed, prompting a lockdown at San Marino High School, was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon after being located with a gun near a mall in Arcadia, officials reported.
Aldric Partovi, 15, was originally reported missing about 10:30 a.m. from his home in the 600 block of Madre Street in unincorporated Pasadena, the San Marino Police Department said in a news release. Family members told police they feared Partovi was in possession of two firearms missing from his father’s home, sheriff’s officials told KTLA.
At about 2 p.m. officials confirmed Partovi had been located near Dave & Busters at the Westfield Santa Anita mall and was taken into custody by Arcadia police, sheriff’s officials reported.
Partovi was in possession of a firearm, LASD reported, but it was unknown if the firearm was one of the two reported missing from his father’s house.
Partovi was being questioned by sheriff’s deputies at the Temple Sheriff’s Station. Officials said Partovi could possibly be charged with having a firearm in public, or theft of a firearm.
The high school, as well as nearby schools, were placed on lockdown as a precaution while San Marino police and deputies from the Temple Sheriff’s station searched for Partovi, who authorities described as a”critically missing juvenile,” officials said.
As of 3 p.m. the lockdowns had been lifted, school officials said.
Students said inside the high school everyone was on alert.
“They said that we were just on lockdown and there’s someone outside of school, like off campus, that wasn’t safe for us,” a student named Alicia told KTLA. “So we had to stay put for four hours.”
“They told us to stay cautious and duck down and go inside the classrooms and stay cautious,” student Kiara Tatsuno said.
No other details about what led Partovi to leave home were released.
It was unclear if Partovi made any threats while he was missing.
