Two men were killed and a third was injured in a shooting in the Gramercy Park neighborhood of South Los Angeles Thursday evening, LAPD officials told KTLA.
Officials responded to the incident about 5:45 p.m. at Eddie’s Liquor at the intersection of 108th Street and Western Avenue.
The three victims were standing around a parked Chevy pickup when two other men parked their vehicle in a nearby alley, got out and opened fire on them, according to Lt. Steve Jauch with the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department.
Two people were pronounced dead at the scene and the third victim was taken to a hospital in unknown condition, Los Angeles Police Officer Tony Im said. The victims have not been identified, beyond that they were all male.
A fourth man who was sitting inside the truck was not wounded, according to a statement from the sheriff’s department.
After the shooting, both suspects got back in their vehicle and headed westbound on 108th Street, deputies said.
The suspects, described only as two black men, were still at large late Thursday, but Jauch said there were likely witnesses who could identify them.
“The shooting occurred during daylight hours, and it doesn’t appear that there was a lot of things in the way that would hide their identity,” he said. “They just walked right up and opened fire. And why, we don’t know — it’s senseless.”
The incident occurred near the border of Westmont, an unincorporated area of Los Angeles County patrolled by the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department, so although LAPD initially responded, deputies were investigating the incident.
