A brush fire that has burned more than 15 acres in Rancho Cucamonga forced the closure of the 210 Freeway and multiple feeder lanes on Tuesday.

The fire was reported shortly before 11 a.m., prompting Caltrans to shut down the 210 Freeway at its busy interchange with the 15 Freeway.

The Rancho Cucamonga Fire Department was responding in very windy conditions. A spokeswoman said the blaze jumped from the north side to the south side of the freeway.

The California Highway Patrol’s Inland Communications Center in Fontana was evacuated due to the fire, with calls redirected to a center in Indio.

The fire came on a second day of record-breaking heat amid a warning of extreme fire danger due in part to gusty Santa Ana winds.

Lanes on the 210 Freeway began reopening in the 1 p.m. hour, but transitions to the 15 Freeway remained closed.

About 3 p.m., the fire was reported at 15 to 20 acres of grass and brush, with 10 percent containment. The fire’s forward spread was stopped.
