Four people were taken to the hospital and two were arrested after a stolen Mercedes-Benz carrying three teenagers crashed during a pursuit in Palos Verdes Estates on Wednesday, police said.

The white luxury SUV was reported stolen in San Pedro, then spotted by officers using an automatic license plate reader in the 300 block of Palos Verdes Drive West at about 4:30 p.m., the Palos Verdes Estates Police Department said in a Facebook post.

After officers tried to pull it over, the driver took off, and a pursuit ensued. When the chase reached the 1000 block of the seaside road, the driver of the stolen car lost control and hit another vehicle head-on, officials said.

At that point, two 16-year-old boys ran from the Mercedes. The pair was later located and arrested, and was being treated for minor injuries sustained in the crash, Sgt. Steve Barber said.

Inside the SUV, authorities found a 14-year-old girl who was hurt in the collision. Although Barber originally told KTLA she was critically injured, the department’s later Facebook post said all four involved suffered only minor injuries.

The girl was being treated at a nearby hospital, while man behind the wheel of the second car involved in the crash complained of pain and was also transported, according to Barber.

No identifying information would be released about the suspects due to their age, but police said they were believed to be from San Pedro.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident but said the suspects would be “charged appropriately.”
