A mother and her boyfriend have been arrested in connection with the death of a 4-year-old in Merced County, after the child suffered seizures and later died at a hospital on Nov. 7, the local Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday.

The suspects, Chanish Conrady, 22, and Steven Perez Jr., 27 were both arrested on suspicion of felony child endangerment with possible bodily injury in Dos Palos, which sits about 23 miles south of Merced.

Perez was also arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder and assault on a child resulting in great bodily injury.

Authorities did not immediately release the child’s exact cause of death but told the Merced Sun-Star that the county’s Child Protective Services had also been involved in the investigation and that there were previous cases involving the child.

The pair were booked into the Merced County Jail. Conrady’s bail was set at $100,000 and Perez’s bail at $1 million.

Investigators ask anyone with any information on this case to contact the Merced County Sheriff’s Office at 209- 385-7472.
