A magnitude 4.5 earthquake shook the Bay Area Monday night, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The temblor hit at about 10:33 p.m. just north of Walnut Creek, about 24 miles east of Oakland, USGS says.
The quake originated at a depth of about 9 miles.
It was preceded by a 2.5 magnitude foreshock that struck at about 9:23 p.m., officials said.
The rattling was not expected to generate a tsunami, the National Weather Service said.
There were no immediately reports of injury or extensive damage.
People reported feeling the shaking as far as Santa Rosa, Stockton and San Jose, according to USGS.
As a result, BART service would be running at a delay of about 10 to 15 minutes so track inspections could be completed.
Officials estimate there’s a 2% chance of another earthquake with a magnitude of at least 4.5 hitting the area within the next week — and it’s even more likely there’ll be more smaller quakes.
Correction: A previous version of this story incorrectly stated the time the 4.5 magnitude quake struck.
The M4.5 quake at 10:33 pm was in the East Bay at 14 km depth. Because any quake can be a foreshock, there’s a slight increase in the chance of a bigger quake for the next few days, at the same location near the Calaveras fault

whoah, 10 floors up and I really felt that. some rumbles then a big shake like the building got punched in the gut.
never been in an #earthquake before when I was in a highrise.. felt way too short to be anything major I guess— Mike Schueler (@mkschueler) October 15, 2019
