A shooting near the West Hollywood and Fairfax border left a man dead early Monday, and investigators are looking for those responsible, officials said.
The Los Angeles Police Department did not specify when and where the attack occurred, but investigators had placed crime scene tape between a half-mile stretch of Fairfax Avenue from Santa Monica Boulevard and Melrose Avenue by around 4:30 a.m.
Responding officers found a “blood trail” leading north on Fairfax, LAPD officials said in an updated news release. They eventually found a shooting scene in an alley parallel to Fairfax.
Police said that witnesses reported seeing a man wearing a red hoodie running north and attempting to stop cars that were heading south. The man, later determined to be the victim, had been shot and was taken to a hospital in a private vehicle. He eventually died from his injuries, police said. He has not been identified.
Detectives, who have yet to determine a motive, are looking for additional witnesses to the crime, according to LAPD.
It’s unclear how long officers will remain at the scene.
