A man initially claiming to be the victim of a stabbing has been arrested on suspicion of robbery and assault with a deadly weapon, Covina police said Wednesday.
Officers responded to a report of a man bleeding and asking for help at the In-N-Out restaurant located in the 1300 block of North Grand Avenue shortly before midnight, the Police Department stated in a news release.
The victim told officers he was riding his bike near the restaurant when a vehicle pulled up next to him. The victim was stabbed multiple times on his upper body and arms during an attempted robbery, the release stated.
Before fleeing from the attacker, the victim managed to also injure the suspect and smash the rear window of the suspect’s vehicle.
The victim, who apparently lost only his hat during the robbery, was taken to a local hospital to be treated for his wounds.
Minutes after responding to the In-N-Out restaurant, officers received another call regarding a stabbing and were sent to the 400 block of East. Alisal Street.
Investigators found Jacob Cannon, who claimed to have been assaulted in the city of Azusa, suffering from a stab wound to his stomach.
The officers noticed the rear window on Cannon’s vehicle was smashed out and that the vehicle matched the description given to them at the robbery crime scene.
Investigators determined Cannon was the suspect in the initial robbery and received the wound during the altercation with the victim.
Cannon was transported to a local hospital for treatment and later arrested.
