Carlos Herrera

Carlos Herrera is a reporter for KTLA 5 News.

He joined the KTLA family in October 2020 after spending seven years working at several TV news stations in California and Arizona.

Before returning to his hometown, Carlos reported at KXTV in the Golden State’s capital, Sacramento. For two years, he covered countless major stories in Northern California, including several major wildfires, historic flooding, new legislation at the state Capitol, anti-police brutality protests following the death of George Floyd, the ongoing pandemic, President Donald Trump’s first visit to the capital and most recently, the historic Golden State Killer case and trial.

He also occasionally traveled to the nearby Bay Area to cover stories such as the Garlic Festival mass shooting in Gilroy and the Grand Princess cruise ship docking in Oakland. He also travelled to Los Angeles to cover the death of NBA legend Kobe Bryant and the memorial service at Staples Center.

Carlos also occasionally anchored the weather.

Previously, he reported at stations in Tucson, Arizona, and sunny Palm Springs, California.

In fact, he started his reporting career in the Coachella Valley. While there, he enjoyed the lovely desert views and covered breaking news. He then moved to another desert, in Arizona. During his time in Tucson, he covered many stories, including wildfires, monsoon storms and human trafficking at nearby the U.S.-Mexico border in Nogales. He ate a lot of tacos there, too.

Carlos is a proud Californian and, most importantly, a proud Angeleno. He was born and raised in Hollywood, just a few blocks away from the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the KTLA 5 studios.

He graduated from California State University Northridge with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a Spanish-language journalism minor.

Without a doubt, he is also a proud Latino. His parents are from El Salvador, a country he visits often, to see his friends and family. Salvadoran food is favorite.

When he’s not reporting the news, he is either working out, watching a soccer game, reading, trying a new restaurant, spending time with his family or taking a nap. He is also a member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists.

You can follow him on social here: Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
