Sandra Mitchell

Sandra Mitchell is a general assignment reporter for KTLA 5 News. She joined the station in June 2021.

Prior to her current role, she solo anchored the midday newscasts at KCBS in Los Angeles.

Sandra has anchored, reported on, informed and reassured viewers during some of the biggest recent news events, including the COVID-19 pandemic; the 2017 Las Vegas shooting massacre; the Christopher Dorner manhunt; the funerals of President Ronald Reagan and the King of Pop, Michael Jackson; devastating brush fires; mudslides; earthquakes; and wild car pursuits.

Sandra has been awarded four Emmy Awards and three Golden Mike Awards. The Alliance for Women in Media honored her as the national Genii Award recipient for excellence in television reporting. Kappa Tau Alpha, the national honor society of journalists and broadcasters, also awarded her the excellence in broadcasting distinction.

Before coming to Los Angeles, Sandra reported, anchored and produced for the syndicated show “Extra,” “Today” in Australia and for ABC News network and affiliate stations in St. Louis and New Orleans.

Sandra started her journalism career while she was still in high school as a reporter for her hometown daily newspaper, the Lancaster Intelligencer Journal, and later reported for the Pulitzer Prize-winning Philadelphia Inquirer.

Sandra graduated from Temple University in Philadelphia (Go Owls!) with a degree in broadcast journalism and a minor in political science. 

Sandra is an active volunteer and advocate for several non-profit health organizations and has served as a director on the executive board for Susan G. Komen, Los Angeles.
