Tim Lynn

Tim Lynn was a pilot/reporter for KTLA. He retired from the station in November 2020.

Tim Lynn is the pilot/reporter in Sky5 on the KTLA 5 News at 6, KTLA 5 News at 6:30 and KTLA 5 News at 10.

Tim was born and raised in the South Bay and raised his own family in Torrance.

After high school, Tim joined the United States Coast Guard, serving a four-year enlistment. He began his 30+ year law enforcement career with the Gardena Police Department. Tim then joined the Culver City Police Department, where his assignments included patrol, K-9 handler, traffic accident investigator, motor officer and narcotics investigator assigned to Drug Enforcement Administration’s Los Angeles office.

Tim developed a love of flying and obtained his instructors certificate in airplanes. In 1990, Tim transferred to the Huntington Beach Police Department to work toward his dream of flying police helicopters. After assignments in patrol and another tour with the D.E.A taskforce in Orange County, his dream came true in 1998 when he was assigned to the HBPD Air Unit. Tim worked his way up to instructor pilot.

Tim retired from his law enforcement career in 2004 to enter a new career as a news helicopter pilot. Tim worked as a pilot for KCBS-TV’s Sky 2 and KCAL-TV’s Sky 9, and in May 2009, Tim joined the KTLA 5 family as the night side pilot/reporter in Sky5.

Drawing from his past experience and expertise, Tim reports on fast breaking news events of all types, especially high-speed pursuits while at the controls of Sky5. Tim won an Emmy for his reporting on the 2014 UCLA water main break that flooded Pauley Pavilion, and won again in 2016 as part of the KTLA 5 News at 10 team.

In his off time, Tim enjoys RVing, family gatherings and of course, going to Anaheim Ducks hockey games.
