Jamie Foxx has shared some new details about the 2023 medical emergency that left him unable to walk and kept him out of the public eye for several months.
A clip shared Monday by the Instagram account Gossip of the City showed Foxx, 56, speaking with fans on what appears to be a restaurant patio in Phoenix, Arizona.
“I had a headache, asked my boy for an Advil,” Foxx said, then snapped his fingers. “I was gone for 20 days. I don’t remember anything.”
He said his sister and daughter took him to the first doctor, but his voice trailed off, and it’s unclear what he said. The second doctor said “there’s something going on up there” he said, pointing to his head.
“I won’t say it on camera,” he said, and the crowd laughed. “Yeah, I don’t want to say it on camera.”
In April of 2023, Foxx fell ill during production on the film “Back In Action.” He opened up about his long recovery while accepting the Vanguard Award at the Critics Choice Association Awards Celebration of Cinema and Television Honoring Black, Latino and AAPI Achievements in December 2023.
“You know, it’s crazy, I couldn’t do that six months ago — I couldn’t actually walk,” Foxx said, referring to the moment he walked across the stage to a standing ovation.
“I wouldn’t wish what I went through on my worst enemy because it’s tough when it’s almost over … when you see the tunnel. I saw the tunnel, I didn’t see the light,” he said. “I have a new respect for life. I have a new respect for my art.”
In February, Foxx shared a clip from his 2002 HBO comedy special “I Might Need Security” on Instagram, suggesting he wanted to get back into standup comedy, which he largely stepped away from as his film career took off. In the clip, he can be seen joking about how it would sound if Prince sang the theme song to “The Brady Bunch.”
“Prince singing the ‘Brady Bunch’ theme song was a moment… I’m planning on bringing more moments,” Foxx wrote alongside the video. “Going to get on somebody’s stage somewhere near you. I got some jokes, and a story to tell…”
