Late singer Jenni Rivera’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame was vandalized, less than two weeks after it was unveiled.
The Walk of Fame was alerted of the vandalism on July 9.
A photo of the damage shows some sort of black substance over the star, which covered it completely.
“This is unacceptable!” the Walk of Fame posted to Instagram. “Terrazzo star maker Vince [is] on the way to repair. Thanks to the fans who tried to clean the star up and reported.”
The Walk of Fame also posted a video showing a fan on his knees scrubbing what could be paint off the star using a sort of wet wipe.
Two hours later, the Walk of Fame showed the star back in “pristine condition.”
The account noted that cameras are “everywhere” near the star and a police report has been filed.
Rivera’s oldest daughter, Chiquis Rivera, left a comment on the post expressing her appreciation for her mom’s fans who helped clean up the mess while condemning those responsible.
“I cannot with this,” she wrote. “Thank you (to) my momma’s fans that took the time to help clean it up. Shame on the person/people who did this.”
Rivera was honored with the posthumous star on June 27. Her five children received the honor on her behalf.
KTLA 5 reached out to the Los Angeles Police Department for an update on the case, but has not yet received a response.
