Gayle Anderson was live in San Pedro for L.A. Fleet Week 2024, Southern California’s largest Memorial Day Weekend event.
L.A. Fleet Week is a free annual, multi-day celebration of our nation’s Sea Services held on the L.A. Waterfront at the Port of Los Angeles over the extended Memorial Day Weekend. Some of these events include active-duty ship tours.
On May 22 we see the arrival of the Coast Guard Cutter Terrell Horne and the USS Carl Vinson, the Nimitz-class nuclear powered aircraft carrier, a supercarrier, named in honor of Congressman Carl Vinson of Georgia (1883-1981).
L.A. Fleet Week 2024 activities also feature:
- Military displays and equipment demonstrations
- Live entertainment
- Neighborhood Activations
- Downtown San Pedro and Wilmington Welcome Parties
- Aircraft flyovers
- Galley Wars culinary cook-off competition between Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Air Force and Army teams
- Competitions including Dodgeball and Military Has Talent
- Military band performances across L.A
The weekend event is FREE to the public!
L.A. Fleet Week is not only a fun public event, but also facilitates numerous symposiums, exercises, and outreaches focused on community resiliency, disaster preparedness, and support for area residents.
