Gayle Anderson reports another step of the California Science Center’s “GO FOR STACK” program happens today with the transport of the Space Shuttle Endeavour from its former exhibition hall hanger to its new, under construction facility, the Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center.

The Endeavour will travel down the State Street side of the California Science Center on its own self-propelled modular transporter (SPMT) to the construction site, where on Monday, it is scheduled for attachment to its solid rocket motors and the external fuel tank.

The moving and lifting of each of the space shuttle components into place for Endeavour’s upcoming, impressive 20-story vertical display is a technically challenging feat has never been conducted outside of a NASA facility.
