Because of the tumor, the goldfish named “George” was having trouble eating and getting around,  Seven News in Australia reported.

His owner also claimed that George was being bullied by other fish.

The owners spent hundreds of dollars to have the large growth removed from their beloved goldfish’s head in an hour-long procedure at Lort Smith Animal Hospital.

Water from George’s pond was brought in buckets and he was fed through a tube in his mouth to keep his gills wet, the station reported.

The fish was recuperating in his tank at home, and could potentially live for another 20 years, according to Seven News.

The animal hospital gave further details about the surgery on their Facebook page.
