Authorities took a suspect into custody he led officials on a pursuit through Los Angeles County that ended with a crash on the 105 Freeway near Hawthorne, authorities said.

The chase began about 3 p.m. when deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Carson Station tried to pull over what officials described as a reckless, possibly intoxicated driver.

The minivan ran over a spike strip deployed by deputies at one point during the chase, but continued traveling through South Los Angeles at slow speed, with patrol cars following closely behind.

The driver got back onto the freeways and continued fleeing officials at slow speed, with several tires completely destroyed, before crashing at a gore point on the westbound 105 Freeway near La Cienega Boulevard, just outside of Hawthorne.

Numerous sheriff’s deputies could be seen in aerial footage from Sky5 holding the suspect at gunpoint before taking him into custody about an hour after the chase began.
