Late-week storm promises to bring more rain to Southern California

Southern California is just clearing up from another wet weekend but more rain is already in the forecast.

The region should see some sunshine and warmer weather Tuesday and Wednesday but clouds are likely to return Thursday morning.

“By Thursday evening there is rain back in the forecast and it looks like Friday is very active with rain and mountain snow,” KTLA Meteorologist Henry DiCarlo said.

The National Weather Service is also calling for a chance of thunderstorm activity on Friday.

The upcoming storm is not expected to be as strong as the one that brought between one and three inches of rain to much of Southern California over the Easter holiday weekend

Downtown Los Angeles received 2.10 inches over the past five days, the Weather Service reported. Chatsworth received 1.96 inches and Claremont 1.64 inches of rain. More than 4 inches fell in South Gate over the same period, according to the Weather Service.

As for the upcoming system, it won’t be as strong but the Weather Service is predicting about a half-inch to an inch in most areas and it “will affect your Friday travel,” Henry said.

Temperatures are expected to drop significantly on Thursday due to the approaching storm.

Very low snow levels are likely Friday night into Saturday morning and may cause travel problems along the 5 Freeway through the Grapevine, the Weather Service said.

A second storm system is also tracking to enter the region late Sunday into Monday of next week.

“The weekend in between…I’m hoping to keep that generally sunny,” Henry said.
