The dog, named Junior, had been locked inside the vehicle, which measured a temperature of 106.5 degrees when crews got the pooch out, the Fontana Police Department tweeted on Thursday afternoon.

Junior was taken to animal control to cool off, and was expected to be all right, separate tweets from the department stated.

The dog’s owner was cited for leaving the animal in a hot vehicle, police said in a tweet.

Junior was released to the owner’s mother several hours later.

The response came a little more than a week after Fontana police rescued a poodle named Max who had been locked inside the trunk of a car, allegedly by his owner.
