An investigation is underway into a shooting that left one person dead and three others wounded at a Mother’s Day party in Hollywood Sunday night.

The incident occurred about 10:15 p.m. as officers responding to an unrelated call heard gunshots in the 6200 block of Afton Place, Los Angeles Police Department Capt. Brian Bixler said.

The officers arrived to find multiple gunshot victims amid what was described in a Los Angeles Police Department news release as an unruly crowd.

One of the victims was rendered aid but pronounced dead at the scene, Bixler said.

The victim was identified as 29-year-old Alfonso Jr. Leon, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner records. An aunt described him as fun and friendly and said he was not a gang member.

An initial alert from the Los Angeles Fire Department stated there were six total victims, but the LAPD later updated the number to four, including the deceased victim.

The three wounded victims were taken to local hospitals. One person was in critical condition and the other two were listed in stable condition, according to the LAPD’s news release.

Investigators believe two males opened fire on the party but did not provide descriptions.

The motive for the shooting is unknown and it is not clear if the shooters spoke to anyone before opening fire.

Investigators are asking the public for help with any information on the case.

“There was a lot of people so we know somebody saw something,” Bixler said.

Police are also searching for any surveillance video that may have recorded the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Police Department at 213-382-9470. Those who prefer to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.

A GoFundMe page for Leon was created to support his family. Known as “Ponchito” and “Chonchis,” Leon was described as having a “vibrant spirit.” The page indicates the victim was fatally shot in “front of his place of residence.”

“He made it his mission to make others smile and turn any frown upside down, but let’s not forget the dance moves he brought to the dance floor,” the fundraising page read.
