1 Pedestrian Dead, Another Critical After Being Struck by Car in Santa Clarita

A man was killed and a woman critically injured Tuesday night when they were struck by a car in Santa Clarita, authorities said.

The collision, near the intersection of American Beauty Drive and Sierra Highway (map), was reported at 8:23 p.m., said Deputy Charles Christensen of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

A silver Toyota Celica was headed south on Sierra when it hit the two pedestrians, the Sheriff’s Department said. The man died at the scene. The woman suffered multiple fractures and was transported to a Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Valencia.

The driver stopped and was cooperating with deputies, according to LASD Sgt. Andrew Dahring.

The cause of incident was not immediately known, Dahring said.

An investigation is under way.
